For Mum, One Step at a Time

From 4 May to 17 May, I will be taking on the Impossible Walk in support of Dementia Australia.

This one is deeply personal.

My mum has vascular dementia and if you have walked this road, you will know it is a truly horrible disease. It’s not just memory loss. It’s watching someone you love slowly change. It’s the small moments that don’t quite land, the conversations that drift and the quiet realisation that pieces of who they are are slipping away or gone forever.

Dementia is now the leading cause of death for women in Australia, but statistics don't capture what it actually feels like to live through it alongside someone you love. It is confronting, relentless and heartbreaking.

So this is me, doing something.

The goal is 44km over two weeks… but in a moment of questionable judgement, I have set mine at 103km.

Yes, I am already questioning that decision.

This walk is about more than distance. It is about raising awareness, supporting research and giving back to an organisation that has supported our family through something that can feel incredibly overwhelming and isolating.

I know times are tough, so there is absolutely no pressure, but if you are able to donate, even a few dollars, it would mean a lot.

And if not, feel free to cheer me on while I work out why 103km felt like a good idea.

Mostly though, this is for Mum.
