Lewy body dementia

Lewy Body Dementia – The Great Mimicker

For Day 4, we are talking about Dementia with Lewy Bodies (DLB). It’s the third most common type, yet many people have never heard of it!
It gets its name from tiny clumps of protein (called Lewy bodies) that build up in the brain. What makes this type so unique and often frightening for families is how much it can change from hour to hour.

Key Signs to Look For:
* Fluctuating Alertness: Someone might be perfectly sharp at breakfast but deeply confused or drowsy by lunchtime.
* Vivid Hallucinations: It is very common for people with DLB to see things that aren't there—often people or animals—in great detail.
* Movement Issues: It shares symptoms with Parkinson’s, like tremors, stiffness, or a shuffling walk.
* Sleep Disturbances: People often "act out" their dreams, which can lead to restless nights or even falling out of bed.

Because it affects movement and mood, it is often misdiagnosed as Parkinson’s or even a psychiatric issue. Understanding that these hallucinations are part of a physical brain disease can help families respond with more patience and less fear.
Knowledge is power! Had you heard of "Lewy Bodies" before today? What has been your experience with Lewy Body? Let’s spread the word.
Be kind

I'm making the impossible, possible, by taking part in Australia's Walk & Jog Challenge to raise much needed funds for dementia research.

I’m taking part in Australia's Walk & Jog Challenge by committing to raise much needed funds to support people impacted by dementia.

I’m doing this to honour my mum this disease has taken over her body at 64 she has Lewy body dementia, to see how far down hill she goes it’s a very cruel horrible disease and to honour my nan who we lost 7 years ago to dementia 🩷❤️

But I need your help! Please make a donation to support my efforts and help me to make the impossible, possible.

My fundraising will help support the work of Dementia Australia Research Foundation, funding innovative Australian research into dementia causes, diagnosis, treatment and one day a cure. These guys really helped me when I needed them the most

Thank you for your support.
