About us

Why take on your own impossible challenge?

There is currently no cure for dementia. It doesn't go away and neither will we.

As a community we are passionate about being positive and about what’s possible. We believe in making the impossible, possible. After all, we made it to the moon!

We believe science holds the key to ending dementia. Your support will fund innovative Australian researchers across all stages of their career.

Make your impossible, possible!

How is dementia affecting us today?

Dementia is the second leading cause of death.

Today 36 lives will be lost to dementia.

There are currently 472,000 living with dementia.

Where your funds go?

Your support will go to Dementia Australia Research Foundation, funding research into better treatment options for people living with dementia, and ultimately a cure.

Research into the causes of dementia

There is still much to learn about the possible causes of dementia, including Alzheimer's disease - the most common form of dementia.

Research into better ways of diagnosing dementia

Developing better and more accurate methods of diagnosis is an important research focus. Currently, there is no single test that can accurately diagnose dementia.

Dementia care research

Research into quality dementia care and the best ways of supporting carers provides important insights into improving the quality of life of people with dementia, their families and carers.

Research into dementia treatments and cure

There is currently no medication that modifies or slows the progression of Alzheimer’s disease or other kinds of dementia. Available medications may reduce symptoms and improve quality of life in some people, but they do not stop the progress of the disease.

Dementia risk reduction and prevention research

There is good evidence for dementia risk reduction through changed lifestyle and behaviours but the evidence base needs to be further developed and the interaction between lifestyle and genetic factors better understood.
